Inspired by old cottage windows, The Modern Chalet Quilt's geometric pattern calls back to our memories of gathering with loved ones. The bigger squares and smaller squares create a sense of older generations surrounded by their more numerous younger generations. Though complex in its appearance, the pattern eludes calm and the definition of home.

Pattern includes thorough instructions and illustrations to make baby and throw sized quilts.

Fabric Requirements (WOF is assumed to be 40"):

Baby (39” x 47”):
Fabric 1 (large squares) - 2/3 yard
Fabric 2 (medium squares) - 3/4 yard for single fabric quilt. Scrappy quilt - (1) 5” charm pack or (4) fat quarters
Fabric 3 (small squares) - 1/4 yard
Sashing - 1 1/4 yards
Binding - 1/3 yard
Backing - 3 yards

Throw (63” x 78”):
Fabric 1 (large squares) - 1 1/4 yards
Fabric 2 (medium squares) - 2 yards for single fabric quilt. Scrappy quilt - (1) 10” layer cake or (9) fat quarters
Fabric 3 (small squares) - 1/2 yard
sashing - 2 1/4 yards
binding - 1/2 yard
backing - 4 yards

Two color quilt:
Baby - use 1 2/3 yards in place of Fabrics 1, 2 and 3
Throw - use 3 3/4 yards in place of Fabrics 1, 2 and 3

I haven't made it yet but the pattern looks easy enough to follow with all the information needed. My one complaint is that when a digital version of a pattern is offered but left in booklet format and not reformatted to print on standard printer paper. Not all home printers are capable of printing booklets; at least not easily.

Beautiful pattern with clear directions and so versatile! Easy to download. Perfect transaction.

The pattern was well written, but there are two major drawbacks. First, the cutting and piecing methods are much more complicated than necessary. I’m re-working it to use strip piecing. Then, there’s no information about how to scale up the size. I’m also doing the math (which I hate!) to turn it into a queen size.
